Ok. All non-DSLR photographers look away now. This could get, umm, boring.
So I decided to have a go at doing some low light stuff a wee while ago, which was interesting. Get the shots back into my workflow which goes – Lightroom – ACR – PS – found banding from hell in the shadow detail. I mean seriously. Where the feck did that come from? Never noticed it before. So took the raw into a couple of other things – umm, bibble? that even a program? and capture one? – same thing anyways – banded. Dug out my old copy of Nikon NX2 – no banding. Which is awesome. Apart from NX2 being one of the ugliest most unwieldy shitty pieces of software.
So long story short – I’ve had to alter my workflow to use NX2 which is ok due to a small plugin – NX Tooey 3 for Lightroom which allows you to open RAW in NX from lightroom. It is however not a neat and flowing workflow, esp as the metadata reading is oneway, so any suggestions appreciated since my workflow is slow enough with a wad of additional steps….

Try Rawker – it’s the only non-Nikon piece of software that I could ever find that would make a good job of raw converting low light Nikon stuff. It’s very basic, but it works and it’s not NX2.
